Those Surprising Firsts

There are many 'firsts' when it comes to babies and there are some of them that I knew I would love. I knew I would love my child's first words, steps, and all those other wonderful movie moments all parents anticipate. But what has taken me by surprise are the firsts that have overwhelmed me with happiness that I wasn't expecting. For example, when Scarlet was two weeks old and I got to put her in her first Sunday dress with her little shoes and her beautiful little bracelet with a bow in her hair I was in heaven. I felt like a six year old girl all over again with the most perfect doll in the entire world. There was nothing that could bring me down from that mom high that day.

I had another unexpected moment like that today. I put Scarlet's hair in pigtails for the first time today.

Jon had pointed out her sprouting mullet a few days ago and I thought I would give them a try this morning, not sure if her hair would be long enough. Sure enough, they were and suddenly my beautiful little child transformed instantly in my eyes to a beautiful toddler. She just looked so mature (one year old mature) and adorable I was just head over heels in love with it. Ok, it might have been a bit of an extreme reaction but I really enjoyed them.

I am really hoping I'm not alone in my overreaction to unexpected firsts... I can see this sounding really weird. :) Oh well, my blog right?

I'm totally with you on this, Kacey. I was so excited to put Kaiya's hair into pigtails for the first time. They were probably the same size as Scarlet's, in fact. Jared was like, "Seriously?"

I am totally the same way!! I loved when I could put Cambree's hair in pigtails, now I just have to convince her that they are cute and that she shouldn't pull them out!!! Totally understand 100% not an overaction by any means!! LOVE THE HAIR SCARLET!!

Your such a cute first mom. I also love the fact that you don't hide all your first mom moments and your love for them. I think there are like at least 10 times a day I look at Cooper and think wow what a cute amazing kid and then I think I hope i do that with all my kids and hope I don't get too busy to appreciate everything about them.

Could you please move her ears - I can't see the pigtails!
